Turning the scale towards nuclear reactor safety
Significant advances in nuclear safety have originated from the transfer of the results and information obtained during scaled experiments to the real reactor conditions. Under the SCACEX project (SCAling of Containment Experiments), a group of European experts have studied the theoretical basis of scaling and its application in nuclear reactor technology, shedding light on its strengths, weaknesses and most importantly, its potential applicability.

Der Transfer der Ergebnisse und Informationen, die bei skalierten Experimenten zu den realen Bedingungen in Atomreaktoren gewonnen wurden, hat zu bedeutenden Fortschritten in der Reaktorsicherheit beigetragen. Im Projekt SCACEX (SCAling of Containment EXperiments) hat sich eine europäische Expertengruppe eingehend mit den theoretischen Grundlagen der Skalierung und der Anwendung dieses Verfahrens in der Atomreaktor-Technologie beschäftigt. Die Arbeit machte deutlich, welche Stärken und Schwächen die Skalierung hat und - was das Wichtigste ist - in welchem Umfang es in der Praxis angewandt werden kann.

Inclinar la balanza hacia la seguridad de los reactores nucleares
La posibilidad de trasladar los resultados y datos obtenidos durante los experimentos de escala a las condiciones reales del reactor ha supuesto un avance significativo en el campo de la seguridad nuclear. En el marco del proyecto SCACEX ("SCAling of Containment EXperiments" - Experimentos de contención con métodos de escala), un grupo de expertos europeos ha estudiado las bases teóricas de los procedimientos de escala y su aplicación a la ingeniería de reactores nucleares, aportando nuevos conocimientos sobre sus aspectos positivos, sus puntos débiles y, lo que es más importante, sobre sus posibles aplicaciones.
