Naukowcom finansowanym przez Unię Europejską udało się zwiększyć zdolność przewodzenia prądu przez cienkie, wysokotemperaturowe taśmy nadprzewodnikowe bez konieczności ich skracania, co umożliwia zastosowanie w celach komercyjnych. Wyniki mogą zmienić sposób wytwarzania i przesyłania energii, umożliwiając na przykład tworzenie bezstratnych sieci energetycznych lub silników i generatorów, a także niezwykle silnych magnesów.

La nanotecnología se adentra en el mundo de los superconductores
Gracias a fondos concedidos por la Unión Europea, unos investigadores han conseguido incrementar notablemente la corriente que pueden transportar sin pérdidas unas películas superconductoras delgadas para altas temperaturas en longitudes adecuadas para usos comerciales. Sus resultados podrían cambiar la forma en que se produce y transmite la energía, ya que hacen posibles redes eléctricas, o también motores y generadores, sin pérdidas de corriente. Además, podrían dar lugar a la producción de imanes extremadamente potentes.

Nanotechnology enters the realm of superconductors
EU-funded researchers succeeded in substantially increasing the current that thin, high-temperature superconductor films can conduct without loss in lengths suitable for commercial use. Results can change the way energy is produced and transmitted, enabling for example lossless power grids or motors and generators, and can produce extremely powerful magnets.

Des chercheurs financés par l'UE sont parvenus à augmenter de manière substantielle le courant conduit par les films supraconducteurs à haute température, tout en obtenant les longueurs requises pour les applications commerciales.
