Final Report - PROVENANCE (Enabling and Supporting Provenance in Grids for Complex Problems)

Project ID: 511085
Funded under: FP6-IST

Abstract

The concept of 'provenance' is widely used in the study of fine art. Given the documented history of a work of art, scholars can understand and appreciate its importance and context relative to other works of art. Researchers within an EU-backed project applied the same concept to data and information generated within a grid environment.

The ultimate aim of the Provenance project was to transform applications that produce data and information into so-called provenance aware applications that provide a detailed description of their execution. The output split into eight groups according to the project's deliverables is described in this document.

This final report of the Provenance project describes the methodology used for designing provenance aware applications and the architecture that allows them to interact with each other by exchanging messages. The brief overview of the contractual deliverables is completed by a detailed list of all the project's publications.
