Final Report - GIBON (Opt-electronic integration for 100 Gigabit Ethernet Optical Networks)

Funded under: FP6-IST

Abstract

This is the final activity report of the 'Opto-electronic Integration for 100 Gigabit Ethernet Optical Networks' (GIBON) project. Funded under the European Community's Sixth Framework Programme, GIBON addressed the need for faster Ethernet. Researchers studied the use of opto-electronics for fulfilling the requirements of the emerging 100Gb Ethernet technology.

This document shows the feasibility of the proposed technical solutions. GIBON results show that a single lane 100Gb 'On-off keying' (OOK) solution is able to fulfill the transmission requirements. The report records the findings of four work packages that include specification and tests, transmitter integration, receiver integration and device/integration modelling.
