Final Report - DOMINO (Antimonide Quantum Dots for Mid-Infrared Nano-Photonic Devices)

This is the final activity report of the 'Antimonide quantum dots for mid-IR nano-photonic devices' (Domino) project. Funded under the European Commision's Sixth Framework Programme, Domino investigated the feasibility of antimonides (Sb)-based quantum dots and nanostructured laser diodes operating at room temperature.

In particular, Domino researchers selected the 3-5 µm window of the mid-infrared wavelength range for the development of photonics-based sensors which could be find applications in environment monitoring, laser assisted surgery and optical communications systems. Their close collaboration resulted in many important achievements in the field of Sb-nanostructures.

This document provides a brief overview of the four work packages corresponding to the complementary aspects of the work: epitaxial growth, characterisation of the structure and electronic properties of quantum dots and lastly, the sensors design. Remarks on the potential industrial applications of new devices developed within the project conclude the report.
