Final Report - AMIGO (Amigo ambient intelligence for the networked home environment)

Project ID: 004182
Funded under: FP6-IST

Abstract

Even if the electronic devices we own are increasingly 'networked', they are still unable to work together intelligently. We lack the necessary software to get the fridge and the TV talking to our mobile phone and PC. But the EC-funded Amigo project set out to realise the full potential of an intelligent networked home.

To do this the partners first had to resolve key issues like the lack of interoperability between individual devices. A software platform that gets individual devices in the home to talk to each other and provide context-aware intelligence to control them was developed next. Dedicated prototypes were also prepared to make the benefits immediately clear.

This final report of the Amigo project highlights the challenges faced and how these were addressed. At the heart of the report is a detailed description of the Amigo software platform which allows homes to adapt to the habits of their occupants. A detailed of potential applications concludes the report.
