Final Report - NODE (Nanowire-based one-dimensional electronics)

Abstract

Tiny wires just tens of nanometres in diameter and micrometres in length have emerged as a promising technology that could meet rapidly rising performance requirements for integrated circuits. Unsurprisingly at this scale, nanowires demonstrate characteristics that offer the potential for novel designs and architectures.

Research work within the context of the NODE project led to world-class technology and 40 patents. Specifically, NODE researchers focused on combining silicon with indium arsenide (Si:InAs) as well as silicon germanium (Si:SiGe) and succeeded in growing nanowires from the bottom up, like crystal, into vertical structures.

The main achievements per work package of this three-year project are summarised in this final activity report. This detailed list of the contractual deliverables is completed by all the project's publications.
