We are currently facing a vast world of possibilities for accessing digital content going beyond the windows, icons, menus and pointers. Voice, touch, haptic and other sensors promise to simplify and simultaneously enhance human interaction with computers.

The EC-funded OpenInterface (OI) project took as its starting point the many interaction devices currently available and created an open source framework to speed up the design and development of new user interfaces.

With the OI framework, designers can rapidly prototype of user interfaces by simply mixing and matching different types of input/output devices. This final activity report of the OI project provides a brief overview of the framework and a series of interface concepts developed to test its capabilities.
