Periodic Report - CLIMATEWATER (Bridging the gap between adaptation strategies of climate change impacts and European water policies)

Project ID: 211894
Funded under: FP7-ENVIRONMENT

Abstract

The CLIMATEWATER project aimed to identify gaps that possibly hinder the implementation of the European Union (EU) water policy in combating the impacts of climate change on water. The specific objectives of the project were:
- the analysis and synthesis of data and information on the climate change impacts on water;
- the identification of adaptation strategies;
- the identification of research needs.

Climate change can affect nature, terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems and can cause flooding, drought and water scarcity, limited water supply, deteriorated water quality. The adaptation strategies identified concerned the combat of extreme hydrological consequences of climate change, floods and drought. The research needs identified concerned the impacts of floods, the mud-avalanches, land-slides, etc.
