Periodic Report - HOMITB (Host and microbial molecular dissection of pathogenesis and immunity in tuberculosis)

Project ID: 200732
Funded under: FP7-HEALTH

This is the period report of the HOMITB project, which pursued the objective of identifying novel host genes involved in control of bacterial load, and regulation of inflammation and immune responses, and bacterial molecules involved in escape from such immune regulatory and effector mechanisms.

The report initially offers some insight on mycobacterial infections and tuberculosis in particular and then explains how the project objectives aimed to address the bacterial load control challenges. The main research methodology is described and the set up of the experiments is presented. Finally, there is an assessment of the project's input in the efforts for the design of novel vaccination and the discovery of better diagnostic markers.
