Periodic Report - NATT (New approaches to target tuberculosis)

Project ID: 222965
Funded under: FP7-HEALTH

Abstract

This is the periodic report for the NATT project which launched an ambitious research plan to develop novel inhibitors targeting unexplored as well as validated Mtb and host cell proteins. As explained in the report, until recently, the only known pathway for de novo synthesis of thymidylate was catalyzed by the classical thymidylate synthase ThyA, which has been studied extensively and whose catalytic mechanism is well understood. Recent genomic analysis has demonstrated that Mtb possesses genes for both the classical ThyA as well as for an alternative thymidylate synthase, called ThyX. The report further details their actions and includes images of the chemical compounds.
