Periodic Report 1 - ISOSOIL (Contaminant-specific isotope analyses as sharp environmental-forensics tools for site characterisation, monitoring and source apportionment of pollutants in soil)

Project ID: 212781
Funded under: FP7-ENVIRONMENT

Abstract

This is the periodic report for 'Contaminant-specific isotope analyses as sharp environmental-forensics tools for site characterisation, monitoring and source apportionment of pollutants in soil' (isoSOIL) project. The project aims to firmly establish concentration-independent contaminant-specific isotope analysis (CSIA) as a novel, user-friendly and powerful tool for both degradation monitoring and source apportionment of organic contaminants in soil.

18 months into the 36 month long project the reports indicates how isoSoil is transitioning into the theoretical phase which involves data interpretation, computing of parameters by quantum chemistry models, and design of the theoretical framework and software. While at the same time, isotopic analysis is at its peak intensity to generate data. The report outlines point by point the actions undertaken so far.
