Final Report - TIP-VAC (Explaining and Improving Efficacy of targeted Immunodeficiency Virus-like Particles against AIDS)

Project ID: 12116
Funded under: FP6-LIFESCIHEALTH

Abstract

This is the final report of the 'Explaining and improving efficacy of targeted immunodeficiency virus-like particles against AIDS' (TIP-VAC) project. The aims of the specific STREP application of the consortium were:

1) to determine the efficacy of the virus-like particle vaccines in a larger number of animals;
2) to better understand the requirements for and the mechanisms of protection; and
3) to further improve the targeted virus-like particle vaccines.

The report reveals the history of the project and the sheer challenge the project is tackling. To achieve the objectives, the project has endeavoured to put together a consortium of excellence in Europe with a track-record of collaborative research, which can address all relevant issues. Given the important role that dendritic cells play in immunity and therefore in vaccine development, the European partnership is strengthened by an expert on dendritic cells from the USA.
