Abstract

This is the final report for the project 'Institutions and research for the Pantanal: towards a bi-regional research agenda to support policy institutions, legal frameworks and social action' (INREP). The main objective of the INREP was to develop sustainable water management at river-basin scale and efficiency in water use in the Pantanal, considered the largest wetland in the world.

The report opens with a summary of activities and major achievements in chapter one, followed by deliverables and publications in chapter two. The research agenda for the Pantanal and the Upper Paraguay River Basin are discussed in chapter three, including research, international cooperation and development of research agenda. Environmental impacts, assessments, sustainable development and capacity building are also discussed. Chapter four covers exploitable knowledge and its use. There are several annexes at the end.
