Abstract

This is the final report of the MOVE project. Funded under the European Community's Sixth Framework Programme, MOVE aimed to investigate the consequences of the growing integration of economic activity in a European-wide network of production and distribution on enterprise strategies and employment in labour-intensive, price-competitive industries. The project has focused on changes in the geography of production, and the expansion of production capabilities to the Eastern and Southeastern frontiers of the EU.

However, the report underlines that Europeanisation takes place within a broader context of global economic integration and a process of industrial restructuring emanating from technological change. As a result, researchers explored the link between the moving frontier of the European economy and the wider processes of structural transformation.
