Final Report - HITI (High-Temperature Instruments for supercritical geothermal reservoir characterization and exploitation)

Project ID: 19913
Funded under: FP6-SUSTDEV

Abstract

Supercritical geothermal wells develop temperatures above 374 degrees Celsius and pressures over 220 bar. These harsh conditions render them non-conventional, mainly due to limitations related to the existing monitoring equipment reliability; however, it is estimated that they could be exploited for electricity production.

The HITI project, funded under the European Community's Sixth Framework Programme, aimed to explore supercritical wells and to enhance their production through the development of novel tools and methods.

This final publishable report describes the research targets and the different work packages related to the project. It then presents the innovative instruments and methods that were developed along with their performance and concludes with prospective strategies for further increase of the technology reliability within a visible time frame.
