Final Report - REFORLAN (Restoration of forest landscapes for biodiversity conservation and rural development in the drylands of Latin America)

Project ID: 32132
Funded under: FP6-INCO

Abstract

Arid and semi-arid forests are often degraded due to population growth and economic development, which result in increasing pressure on ecosystems. However, they are of significant biodiversity, while they provide resources to local populations.

The REFOLAN project, funded under the European Community's Sixth Framework Programme, aimed to identify and promote approaches towards sustainable management of forest ecosystems in Latin America in order to protect biodiversity while supporting local populations' livelihood. The project applied innovative methodologies in a successful manner, thus having significant impact on both science and decision making.

This final activity report summarises the project objectives and employed methodologies. Moreover, the results and innovations of each research component are presented in detail and the knowledge dissemination activities are highlighted.
