Final Report - PHILMINAQ (Mitigating impact from aquaculture in the Philippine)

Project ID: 31640
Funded under: FP6-INCO

Abstract

The Philippine aquaculture was constantly evolving during the past years; however, its contribution to the global fish production decreased. The sector has the potential for further expansion which ought to be combined with sustainable management in order to increase production while mitigating social and environmental effects. The EU-funded PHILMINAQ project aimed to propose approaches and practices addressing the abovementioned challenges.

This final activity report provides an overview of aquaculture conditions and constraints in the Philippines and the greater area. It then presents the project objectives, analyses the employed methodologies and refers to their outcomes and anticipated impact. The utilisation of modelling as a decision support tool is also highlighted. Finally, the report summarises recommendations regarding different components of aquaculture and producers of varying competence.
