Final Report - DNA-TEST (DNA traveling exhibition and science theatre)

Project ID: 36657
Funded under: FP6-SOCIETY

Abstract

The project proposed to develop a travelling exhibition on selected life science topics combined with a live science theatre performance. The trailer stops at different locations where two actors perform a short live theatre linking everyday events to life sciences. The performances are to appeal to a 'broad audience'; no prior knowledge of the biosciences is necessary. The actors will interact with the audience, creating a relaxing atmosphere, and holding the audience's attention with funny, real-life anecdotes. The audience will be entertained, while receiving information on the biosciences. The performances will stimulate people to look for more information and visit the exhibition, talk to the actors and take the brochures.

The engaging nature of the performance offers an ideal opportunity to attract people who would otherwise never take the initiative to learn more about science. Their final report reveals how this project shows that many people are interested in science when it is presented in a playful way. Children are the ones that are most enthusiastic and often bring their parents. Although adults are often shy to participate in the experiments, they will watch the children and hence also receive the information. The setting allows them to ask questions easily. A broad network of science communicators has been made aware of the project and how it is available to them.
