Final Report - OPTIPORT (The development of a new more efficient and safer portable traffic optimisation system for EU ports)

Funded under: FP6-SME

Abstract

This is the final report of the OPTIPORT project, which aimed to increase the competitiveness of European industrial ports by increasing port throughput by 10 %. The project also aimed to increase the real time ship movement forecasting and position accuracy so that this would reduce accidents and groundings in narrow waters, which can improve safety and increase port throughput. It also aimed to introduce a new sensor that will provide very accurate real time ship movement forecasting in the case of GPS system blackout.

The report begins with an overview of the project motivation, objectives and previous related research and then describes its structure into work packages. There is a detailed analysis on the work done under the individual work packages and the tasks appointed to each of them and then there is information on the consortium management aspects. Finally, there is a special dedicated report on dissemination activities.
