Final Report - WAFLA (Integrated water resource Management by the implementation of improved Agro-Forestry concepts in arid and semi-arid areas in Latin America)

Project ID: 32443
Funded under: FP6-INCO

Abstract

Continuous degradation of the extended arid and semi-arid ecosystems in Latin America reduces productivity and enhances inhabitants' poverty. The phenomenon is mainly due to unsustainable agricultural and water management practices.

The WAFLA project, funded by the European Community, aimed to coordinate the current research, technological innovations and social and policy development activities in order to combine integrated water resources management and sustainable agroforestry approaches in targeted arid areas.

This final activity report provides an overview of the current situation and summarises the project objectives. The targets and attained progress of different work packages are listed. Moreover, the achieved end results and the promoted innovations are analysed. Finally, the document closes with a presentation of the plan for knowledge dissemination and future exploitation.
