Final Report - CHINOS (Container Handling in Intermodal Nodes - Optimal and Secure)

Project ID: 31418
Funded under: FP6-SUSTDEV

This is the final report of the CHINOS project. The project developed a system that aimed to address container monitoring issues by encompassing all three 'container status monitoring' parameters (namely identification, seal condition and damage documentation) into one single system as well as ensuring that the overall system is compatible with the upcoming container traceability standard proposals. The system is also fully electronic which allows for remote identification and monitoring. The data can also be stored and retrieved, either in real time or as historical data for analysis and statistical evaluation purposes.

The report begins with the state of the art in logistics and container monitoring, stressing out the common occurring problems. It later states the project's objectives and how it aimed to address these common issues. Following that, there is a more detailed overview of the work performed and the methodology followed, along with a description of the systems developed and used to incorporate the integrated CHINOS system. Finally, there are conclusions on technical achievements and potential benefits for companies that decide to use the system in their business, and then there is a reference to dissemination actions and plans.
