Final Report - OPTIMAL (Optimized Procedures and Techniques for IMprovement of Approach and Landing)

This is the final report of the OPTIMAL project. OPTIMAL was an air-ground cooperative project, which was aiming at defining and validating innovative procedures for the approach and landing phases of aircraft and rotorcraft. The objective was to increase airport capacity and to reduce environmental impacts (noise and carbon footprints) while maintaining or even improving operational safety.

The report begins with a summary of the project's background and objectives and a presentation of its structure and consortium involved. It later goes into detail about the technologies examined and the innovations developed, in terms of areas such as advanced continuous descent approach (ACDA); global navigation satellite system (GNSS)-based procedures; enhanced vision system (EVS); dual/displaced threshold operations; RNP AR APCH procedures with RNP < 0.3; rotorcraft specific IFR procedures; ground functions and ATC tools. The report ends with conclusions and findings.
