Final Report - ATENAA (Advanced Technologies for Networking in Avionic Applications)

Project ID: 502843
Funded under: FP6-AEROSPACE

Abstract

This is the final report of the ATENAA project, which has focused on the possible role of civilian aircraft as nodes of an ad-hoc network, capable of multi-hop transmission over omnidirectional and broadband directional data links. Future applications for CNS/ATM, AOC and cabin services require significant enhancements in aeronautical communications; digital links will be the cornerstone of next generation systems aiming to increase safety, capacity, efficiency and comfort in civil aviation.

The report begins with a description of the project background, motivation and objectives. It later goes on to analyse the work performed, the experiments conducted and the results obtained in key technological areas. It later provides more insight and technical details on the innovations and the methodologies developed within the scope of the project and finally concludes with an assessment of the project's success and potential impact in the relative industry.
