Final Report - ESTSPLINE (Educational, scientific, and technological aspects of splines)

Project ID: 224819
Funded under: FP7-PEOPLE

Abstract

Beginning in 2008, ESTSPLINE focussed its efforts on three different activity sets related to Dr Quak's scientific research field of 3D geometric modelling:
1) development of the Laboratory of Wave Engineering as a new part of the Centre for Nonlinear studies within the Institute of Cybernetics at Tallinn University of Technology;
2) investigations of industrial applications of 3D geometry and road maps for future research in this area;
3) initialisation of a 3D scientific visualisation capacity within CENS.

Their report, which expands on the activities conducted as part of the project notes that as a member of the Activity Group on Geometric Design of the Society of Industrial and Applied Mathematics, Dr Quak also organised 'forward looking sessions' and moderated plenary panel discussions at the activity group's biennial conferences on geometric design in 2007, 2009, and in 2011, partially supported by ESTSPLINE. The goal is to have experts suggest topics for future research, which are scientifically challenging, of practical industrial relevance, and in the subject area of the conference and the activity group.
