Final Report - BIOTOOL (Biological procedures for diagnosing the status and predicting evolution of polluted environments)

Project ID: 3998
Funded under: FP6-SUSTDEV

Abstract

The BIOTOOL project, funded under the European Commission's Sixth Framework Programme (FP6), aimed to assess, evaluate and predict natural attenuation activities, using biological tools and methods, in order to implement natural attenuation as a principal soil and groundwater remediation strategy in Europe. The project established tree core analyses as an innovative approach for rapid monitoring of subsurface contamination and biodegradation processes.

This final activity report provides an overview of BIOTOOL objectives and analyses the applied methodologies, the utilised techniques and the performed activities. The results of different research components are also commented. Finally, the document presents the undertaken dissemination actions and identifies the innovations' potential for commercial and scientific exploitation.
