Final Report - BECAUSE (Critical Interactions BEtween Species and their Implications for a PreCAUtionary FISheries Management in a variable Environment- a Modelling Approach)

Project ID: 502482
Funded under: FP6-POLICIES

Abstract

The BECAUSE project, funded under the European Commission's Sixth Framework Programme (FP6), aimed to identify and quantify critical biological interactions between commercially exploitable fish species and non-commercial top predators. Therefore food web structures were described and precautionary reference points, necessary for the development of adaptive strategies and the promotion of ecosystem oriented fisheries' management, were derived.

This final activity report provides an overview of the project generic and specific objectives. It also presents BECAUSE structure and analyses the anticipated end results along with the potential for their exploitation. In addition, extensive information on the examined case studies is provided. The document closes with a summary of the activities undertaken to disseminate the acquired knowledge to the scientific and general public.
