Final Report - INTREPID (Integrated Trans-boundary River Management Policy Development)

Project ID: 43784
Funded under: FP6-INCO

Abstract

The increase in global population and the necessity for economic growth impose pressures in the African semiarid river basins, which confront water scarcity and extreme temperatures. The previously elaborated research efforts were often fragmentary, disregarding the complexity and interrelations of supporting livelihood, preserving biodiversity and managing water resources.

The INTREPID project, funded by the European Commission, aimed to address the emerging problems by implementing an interdisciplinary approach, which promoted international collaboration and integrated research, policy and management in the fields of interest.

This final activity report provides an overview of the project context and summarises its objectives and achievements. The main activities are briefly presented and the anticipated INTREPID impact is highlighted. Finally, the document refers to the undertaken dissemination actions.
