Final Report - AMS-14C (Preparation of carbon samples for 14C dating by the AMS technique)

Project ID: 43584
Funded under: FP6-INCO

This is the final report of the AMS-14C project, which aimed to implement the new technique of 14C dating of very small samples in the radiocarbon laboratory of the Rudjer Boškovic Institute (RBI) in Zagreb, Croatia, with the aim of reinforcing research potential of the laboratory. Very small samples of the size of mg can be dated by the accelerator mass spectrometry (AMS) technique. For this purpose, all samples have to be converted to carbon (graphite) targets and then the measurement is performed at the accelerator.

The document initially includes a periodic report for the second year of the project and the final consolidated report. The background, the techniques and innovations of the project are presented and then there is a detailed analysis of the objectives and work performed under each of the six work packages. Conclusions and impact assessment follow and a cost budget analysis wrap up the report.
