Final Report - EMRS (A European Multimedia Repository of Science)

Project ID: 504755
Funded under: FP6-LIFESCIHEALTH

Abstract

Life sciences hold promise to improve the quality of life in our society. Because of the complexity of the field and the considerable background knowledge required, the balance between benefits and risks are not easily explained or evident to the general public nor to educators. This may lead to public concerns and even rejection of technologies that hold promise to improve quality of life for members of the society. Constructive dialogue is one of the keys to minimise unfounded concerns and maximise public empowerment on these complex issues. The EMRS project aimed to narrow the gap between science and scientists on the one hand and key stakeholders on the other. As revealed in their final report, the EMRS project looked closely at European coordinated LifeSciHealth scientific research and its application for health. As a result of the project, partners held three focus meetings, prepared seven films and three knowledge packages, created and expanded project website services and established a rapid response network to bring scientists in close contact with the stakeholders.
