Final Report - MOBILE (MOveable Bearings Innovation Launch in enlarged Europe)

Project ID: 31951
Funded under: FP6-SME

Bridge weight and traffic loads as well as braking and wind forces generate a number of different forces that must be transmitted to the ground through bridge piers and abutments. This is the task of bridge bearings, designed, manufactured and installed to permit movements and torsional effects caused by traffic, temperature variations, pre-stress, shrinkage and creep. Bridge bearings are therefore critical components of a bridge structure and demand high quality standards. The MOBILE project is a major step forward in respect of durability, capability and serviceability of bridge bearings as well as its installation handling and production.

In this their final report, they cover the progress made in the project lifecycle according to each work package. There is agreement among the consortium that this project has been a considerable asset for the industry. It has been decided to keep on collaborating in future and to eventually look into the organisation of a follow-up project to deepen the collaboration and tackle the identified further subjects where this approach would make sense.
