Final Report - HYCORE (Hygienic coatings with active ingredient controlled release)

Project ID: 32873
Funded under: FP6-SME

Current applied hygienic coatings are vulnerable to microbial surface colonisation: they may be reservoirs of bacterial and fungal contamination, and being on surfaces in food processing areas and in hospitals, can create danger to health. Moreover, nowadays, a more restrictive legislation is being introduced in the fields related to the safety and health of the sanitary places. Therefore, there is an urgent need for improvement in hygienic surfaces.

In this detailed final report which includes charts and work plans, they explain how the new developed hygienic coatings were formulated both to provide easy cleaning and to incorporate active ingredients (the biocides), which will assist in the removal or deactivation of biocontamination. These coatings play an important role in restricting the spread of microbiological contamination, especially in the sanitary places, where it is really important to assure and maintain the safety and sanitary conditions.
