Final Report - SCOOP (Sheet cutting and process optimization for furniture enterprises)

Project ID: 32998
Funded under: FP6-SME

Abstract

The project focused on furniture industries operating on semi-finished components using computer controlled wood-cutting machines and automated material-handling systems to produce finished good types. The most relevant problem consists in an optimal selection of standard stock sizes and cutting stock sheets into smaller pieces according to specified requirements so that the total trim loss is minimised (cutting stock problem).

Their final report which includes images and screenshots from the website, stresses that the body of knowledge gained can help the small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to avoid many pitfalls, while streamlining their efforts, and improving their chances of technology adoption success. The most important benefit for SOFTEL that it owns the intellectual property rights (IPR) of the SCOOP optimisation software.
