Final Report - UWT (Undocumented Worker Transitions: Compiling evidence concerning the boundaries and processes of change in the status and work of undocumented workers in Europe)
Project ID: 44272Funded under: FP6-POLICIES
This is the final report for the UWT project which investigated undocumented workers' transitions and the relationship between migration status and employment outcomes. The project aimed to understand the factors that underlie migration flows, legal and illegal. It also interviewed undocumented migrants about their knowledge of host labour markets, together with pathways into work they had followed. The report opens with a detailed executive summary that introduces the project. It then delves into the methodology which covers research methods, migrant interviews, ethical guidelines and workshops. The second section represents an overview of migration in seven partner countries, followed by estimates of undocumented migration. Other important topics addressed include the relationship between legal status and working conditions, migration impact on EU labour markets, gender specific dimensions of migration and migrant labour in the underground economy. The report closes with a conclusion and recommendations.
