Periodic Report 1 - LIGHTSWITCHES (Multifunctional DNA light-switches: sensors and devices)

Project ID: 219291
Funded under: FP7-PEOPLE

The LIGHTSWITCHES project was funded under the European Community's Seventh Framework Programme and developed sensors and devices for multifunctional deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) light switches that would serve as tools to examine DNA mediated energy transfer processes.

This document accompanies the LIGHTSWITCHES periodic report and illustrates the investigated DNA binding complexes. Firstly, the complexes that were employed to tune the emissions' wavelength are presented. The structure of a binding agent, complex 3, along with its optical response on binding to various quadruplexes is also depicted, while an example of an amine-containing linker is provided. The latter was useful for the enhancement of dinuclear complexes' binding. Finally, the structure of complexes serving as multifunctional probes for DNA cellular imaging is illustrated.
