Periodic Report - ENTORHINAL CIRCUITS (Spatial representation in the entorhinal neural circuit)
Project ID: 236076Funded under: FP7-PEOPLE
This is the periodic report of the ENTORHINAL CIRCUITS project which trated specifically on understanding the representation of space by individual medial entorhinal cortex (MEC) neurons called 'grid cells'. The report includes images of examples of grid cells with different grid size and spacing. The rat or mouse explores an open environment 1 by 1 meter in size. As they explore, grid cells fire in spatially specific locations which repeat at regular intervals and form a hexagonal pattern of firing activity. Three grid cells are shown.
