Final Report - MATE (Maternal effects: From environment through to the molecular and individual level, and back to population ecology)

Project ID: 235634
Funded under: FP7-PEOPLE

A major issue in ecology is to understand the causes of variation in species' abundance. To address this subject, research should focus on processes occurring at the level of individuals, since the conditions experienced by individuals could affect their performance later in life.

Therefore, the MATE project, which was funded by the European Commission, aimed at evaluating the importance of natal habitat effects on larval traits and the consequences for larval performance in the shore crab carcinus maenas.

This final activity report summarises the project objectives and the obtained results. Firstly, the document presents specific scientific targets and working hypotheses. An analysis of the undertaken activities and derived conclusions is then provided, supported by pictures and figures.
