Final Report - SERO-TB (Development of a specific serological kit for the diagnosis of TB)

Project ID: 37796
Funded under: FP6-LIFESCIHEALTH

Abstract

This is the final report for the SERO-TB project. Tuberculosis (TB) is a severe global problem, and a cornerstone in global TB control is the rapid and accurate diagnosis of active TB. There is a dire need for better TB diagnostics methods in developing countries and the development of a simple and rapid test based on antibody motoring will be of great importance for controlling the global epidemic. As revealed in their final report the goal of the project was a cheap and more accessible diagnostic TB tool suitable for use at point of care, permitting earlier diagnosis of the disease and therefore earlier initiation of treatment. This is an important factor in controlling transmission of the disease. While the test developed was certainly robust and easy to use, the project felt that further study is required.
