Final Report - NFG (Functional genomics of the adult and developing brain)

This is the final report for the NFG project, the unifying theme of which was to identify and characterise complex, physiological electrical activity of cells and networks, and to understand how such global dynamics are orchestrated at a cellular and molecular level in patterns of gene expression. The project focused on two tissue types of primary importance in the nervous system: sensory receptors (olfactory and visual) and cortex (hippocampus and neocortex). This report summarises their efforts. An important achievement was a comprehensive mapping of the mammalian (mouse and human) promoters and the specific feature of the brain promoters as published in Nature Genetics (Carninci et al.) and Journal of Physiology (Gustincich et al.). All in all they show a final breakthrough for the molecular profiling of isolated neurons as specified in the detailed report.
