This is the final report of the Carbon Nanotubes for Application in Electronics, Catalysis, Composites and Nano-Biology (CANAPE) project.

The report is organised into seven technical work packages (WPs). WP1 concerns the growth of Carbon nanotubes (CNTs) by chemical vapour deposition and the scale-up of production. WP2 concerns the use of nanotubes and nanostructured carbon as a catalyst in large-scale chemical reactions such as the dehydrogenation of ethyl benzene to styrene. WP3 concerns electronics, namely the development of CNTs for use as metallic interconnects in future integrated circuits, for field effect transistors in future integrated circuits as well as for field emission based electron guns for vacuum microwave power amplifiers for satellite base stations.

WP4 involves the use of CNTs in polymer composites for improved mechanical properties as well as in potential aerospace applications. WP5 involves the use of CNTs in techniques which lie in surface chemistry and biology for use as bio-sensors. WP6 relates to the potential health hazards due to the toxicity effects of CNTs and finally, WP7 concerns the use of CNTs as catalysts to improve the electrode efficiency in polymer membrane fuel cells.
