Final Report - DESPROCH (Design of a semi-hot process chain)

Project ID: 508378
Funded under: FP6-SME

This is the final activity report of the DESPROCH project. Funded by the European Commission under the Sixth Framework Programme (FP6), DESPROCH's main goal was to establish a basis for the setup of complete, reliable and flexible process chains for the semi-hot forging of long parts. It began with the feeding of raw material and ends with the output of finished, cooled and measured parts. This was realised in the supporting small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in a one-piece-flow process with low production costs and high process quality and guaranteed an optimal use of the project results.

The specific document provides a summary of the overall project objectives and a thorough overview of the work performed by the partners of the consortium of the project which was made up of four SMEs and two research and technological development (RTD) performers. Each partner participated in work packages (WPs) where they could contribute knowledge and/or could establish guidelines.

The result from the project was the spreading of the semi-hot forging technology, first within the project participants but further on in the European forging industry as a whole, and hence strengthening the competitiveness of European forges. It also helped the SME participants to build up international partnerships and alliances for research and marketing. This helped them to keep up with the globalisation of the market.
