Final Report - CHILD TRAUMA NETWORK (Psychological network support to violence traumatized children : disasters, conflicts)

Project ID: 509082
Funded under: FP6-INCO

Abstract

CHILD TRAUMA NETWORK project's objectives were to conceive, to carry out and to have the experience of a Euro-Mediterranean network for consultation and help when intervening, to give medico-psychological help to children traumatised by violence during disasters or wars. For that purpose, the consortium gathered psychiatrists and psychologists from 10 countries around the Mediterranean Sea (North: Belgium, France, Italy, San Marino, Spain; South: Algeria, Egypt, Lebanon, Morocco, Tunisia).

The executive summary report describes the results achieved during the execution of the project, while the final activity report provides a broader view of the project and its main objectives, analysing thoroughly the work performed in the four-year period of the project.

The vision was to create a Euro-Mediterranean network linking the specialised teams of each nation in order to:
- confront the knowledge and the experience to improve scientific knowledge about psycho-traumatology of the child;
- harmonise action doctrines in the fields in the three phases of the trauma: immediate, post immediate and the consequences;
-elaborate a common handbook for teaching and practice of medico-psychological support to traumatised children;
- start up a country by country help system whereby in case of a major catastrophe, help can be requested from other countries to evaluate needs and to send reinforcement teams;
- create a website, in order to facilitate the exchanges between partners, rationalise the teaching of the children psychopathology and open the knowledge toward other countries.
