Final Report - ENF 2003 (EuroNanoForum 2003)

Project ID: 511147
Funded under: FP6-NMP

Abstract

This is the final activity report of the ENF 2003 project. Funded by the European Commission (EC) under the Sixth Framework Program (FP6), the project had as main output the organisation of the European and international Forum on nanotechnology, EuroNanoForum 2003, held in Trieste in December 2003.

ENF 2003 aimed at actively contributing to the implementation of activities of FP6, and namely to the priority theme of nanotechnology, through the analysis and dissemination of results and the preparation of future activities to be undertaken within the European Union (EU) and in cooperation with Associate Candidate Countries (ACCs) as well as with global counterparts, with a view to enabling the Community to achieve its Research and technological development (RTD) strategic objectives.

The specific document provides a summary of the overall project objectives and describes the project's impact on the territory. Besides the European-level objectives of Directorate-General (DG) Research, in line with those of the European Research Area (ERA), the international dimension and the integrating character of the FP6, the expected outcome of ENF 2003 would be to help strengthen the supportive role of the Friuli Venezia Giulia and neighbouring regions as platform supporting networks linking scientists, providers of business and entrepreneurial-support services, venture capitals etc., which would contribute to accelerate the advance of nanotechnology in Central and Eastern Europe. The Forum would thus help launch the concept of an immaterial 'hi-tech corridor' supporting economic development and investment in these regions.
