Abstract

This is the final report for the AMIS project which received funding under the European Commission's Sixth Framework Programme (FP6). Its main aim was to use the strength of the human innate system to design antimicrobial drugs for future generations.

The report begins with stating the aim and the specific objectives of the project and then covers the main achievements which include the optimisation and validation of various in vitro and ex vivo assays, the identification of several novel compounds with either anti-microbial or anti-inflammatory activity, as well as the identification of the exact molecular mechanism of action of several compounds and the identification of fusion compounds. Finally, the report covers some conclusive notes.
