Work Programme 1999: Research and Training Programme (EURATOM) in the Field of Nuclear Energy, (1998-2002)

Funded under: FP5-EAECTP C

This work programme establishes the work schedule of the specific programme for research and technological development activities, including demonstration, in the field of "Research and Training Programme in the Field of Nuclear Energy, 1998-2002" and sets out in detail the various activities to be pursued during its lifetime. On the basis of this Work Programme periodic calls for proposals are launched inviting interested organisations to present project proposals.

The strategic goal of the specific programme "Research and training programme (EURATOM) in the field of nuclear energy" is to help exploit the full potential of nuclear energy, both fusion and fission, in a sustainable manner, by making current technologies even safer and more economical and by exploring promising new concepts.

The specific Euratom programme (indirect actions) comprises two key actions, controlled thermonuclear fusion and nuclear fission, generic research on radiological sciences, and support for research infrastructure.

The programme will be implemented through indirect research and training (RT) actions: these comprise shared-cost actions, training fellowships, support for networks, concerted actions and accompanying measures. Shared-cost actions will be the main mechanism for implementing the programme. In addition, two supplementary training schemes (research training networks and grants for co-operating with third countries), of limited scope, will be implemented within the key action on nuclear fission and the generic research on radiological sciences.
