Final Report - TRANSMAP (Transboundary networks of marine protected areas for (...) conservation and sustainable development: biophysical, socio-economic and governance assessment in East Africa)

Project ID: 510862
Funded under: FP6-INCO

Abstract

The need to protect marine and coastal biodiversity emerges in numerous international directives and conventions; nevertheless their protection remains scarce in comparison to that of the land surface.

The TRANSMAP project was funded under the European Commission's Sixth Framework Programme (FP6) and aimed to develop a scientific basis for the creation of transboundary networks of Marine protected areas (MPAs) along the coast of East Africa.

This final activity report briefly presents the project specific objectives and analyses its major achievements. Information on the implemented techniques is also provided and the project methodologies are analysed with the aid of explanatory figures. The document then summarises the recommendations that were formulated and closes with an overview of the undertaken dissemination activities.
