Abstract

Supercritical water is the state of the art coolant for modern coal fired power plants. The HPLWR PHASE 2 project, which was funded by the European Commission's Sixth Framework Programme (FP6), explored the particular advantages of supercritical water concepts and applied them to the latest light water nuclear reactor technology in order to assess the feasibility of a light water reactor using supercritical water as a coolant and determine its future potential.

This final activity report summarises the project objectives and provides a brief overview of its major achievements. Moreover, it refers to issues that occurred within the consortium management. The impact of the project on research of supercritical water cooled reactors is also highlighted. Finally, the implemented knowledge dissemination plan is presented.
