Community Research and Development Information Service - CORDIS

This guide to Trial Applications forms one part of the Information Technologies programme Information Package. It provides guidance for organizations considering making a proposal for a Trial Application for Software Technologies (task 1.32). The guide needs to be used with two other documents:

- The call for proposals which provides details of the most recent submission dates and overall budget;
- ESPRIT Work Programme which outlines the technical coverage and priority research and development themes for the programme.

Trial Applications aim at demonstrating the suitability and viability of leading-edge technologies to build real domain applications (target applications in the following) for which these technologies, although potentially suitable, still present some level of risk. The support given by the programme is focused on assisting the introduction of the proposed leading edge technology, cushioning the risks that might be associated with this early deployment and the subsequent evaluation and broadcasting of the lessons learned. Overall, the successful trial application should demonstrate and enable the deployment and re-deployment of the technology in many application domains characterised by similar technical requirements.
