Final Report - POLYTECT (Polyfunctional Technical Textiles against Natural Hazards)

Project ID: 26789
Funded under: FP6-NMP

Abstract

This is the final report of the POLYTECT project funded under the European Commission's Sixth Framework Programme (FP6). The report describes the objectives of the project and the work performed and results achieved through the 15 work packages.

POLYTECT was an integrated project for Small and medium enterprises (SMEs) involving 27 partners from 12 countries. The primary aim of the project was to provide reinforcing strength and monitoring capability for geotechnical and masonry applications through the industrial production of multifunctional technical textiles.

The proposed breakthroughs included:
- the use of textile material as load-bearing part of the building;
- the use of multifunctional textiles for stabilisation and monitoring;
- the use of nanostructured materials to tailor the interface properties;
- the incorporation of sensors based on nanocrystalline piezoceramics and optical fibres, development of an impedance-based health monitoring technique.
