Periodic Report - IDEA (Dissecting the Immunological Interplay between Poverty Related Diseases and Helminth Infections: An African-European Research Initiative)

Project ID: 241642
Funded under: FP7-HEALTH

Abstract

This is the periodic report of IDEA, a large-scale integrated project funded by the Seventh Framework Program (FP7). It involves 21 partner institutions from six European (Switzerland, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands and United Kingdom) and five African (Gabon, Kenya, Nigeria, Uganda and Tanzania) countries. The primary objective of IDEA is to determine whether and how the presence of worm infections modulate:
- immune responses specific to HIV, TB and malaria
- the clinical course of these diseases
- and vaccination and vaccine-induced immune responses.

The periodic report provides a summary description of project context and objectives, a description of the work performed since the beginning of the project and the main results achieved so far. It also outlines the expected final results and their potential impact and use, including the socio-economic impact and the wider societal implications of the project so far.
